Quad vs. Tallwood, Poquoson, and Hickory @ Tallwood
Coach Hill's thoughts: The Hawks traveled down to the Tidewater area to compete against the number 2,3,and 4th ranked teams in the state in what was billed a "clash of the Titans". Hayfield enterd the event ranked 14th in the state. The hawks pulled out 3 upsets by sweeping the field. All three teams were missing some starters due to sickness or injury. Hayfield forfeited 103 and 189, thus beginning each match 12 points behind. Standout wrestlers were Peter Rooney at 152 and Floyd Wright at 275, both wrestlers went 3-0 with 3 falls on the day. Junior Ben Rogers went 2-1 on the day, avenging an earlier loss to Mike Hudgins of Tallwood with a come from behind 13-10 victory and later pinning Mike Basham of Hickory, ranked #2 in the Eastern Region at 130.
