Sophomore John Thibideau or freshman Jochin Grandja are the leading contenders for this weight class.  Both Thibideau and Grandja attended the Granby School of wrestling this summer.

119 lbs

Senior Captain, Juan Sanchez looks to win a second district and regional crown as he moves up a weight class for 1999.   A dedicated athlete, Juan competed in over 60 matches in the off-season as he seeks to add a state championship to his mantle.  Juan is a two-time member of the VA National Wrestling Team.  Juan has a 38-17 career record, and had an amazing 36-9 record last year in only his second season of wrestling!

130 lbs

Junior Ben Rogers will probably man this weight class.  Ben is a 4th place finisher in the 1998 VA Prep State Tournament at 130 lbs.  Rogers has shown himself to be a hard worker in the off-season , as he participated in over 50 matches this spring and summer.  Ben is also a member of the VA National Wrestling Team.  Rogers will be a dominant wrestler in 1999, as he should contend for district and regional titles.

135 lbs

Junior Geoff Meno will probably man this weight class where he finished 4th in the district last season.  Geoff will be a favorite to capture the district title and be a state qualifier.

This is the one weight class that is a question mark.  The leading contender is Junior Pat Rooney.  Pat finished 4th in the Patriot district las season at 125 lbs.

145 lbs -160 lbs

145lbs promises to be a strong area in the lineup.  There are as many as 6 returners fighting for these positions.  Junior Nate Kennedy, a 2x member of VA National Wrestling Team, competed in more than 50 matches in the off-season.  Senior Peter Rooney, finished 3rd in Patriot district and is a member of the VA National Wrestling Team.  Junior Jerome Villanueva, Member of VA National wrestling team.  Junior Lawrence Schmidle, Finished 4th in Patriot district at 140 lbs and is a member of VA National Wrestling Team.  Sophomore Tomas Ovalle, Cadet Greco state champ and runner-up in freestyle and member of the VA National wrestling team.  Wes Ward, returning starter at 160 lbs.

189 lbs

This weight class is bereft of any returning wrestlers.

215 lbs

Junior Anthony Stallworth may move down from HWT.  Stallworth finished 4th in the Patriot district at HWT in 1998.  Senior John Lee has excellent strength and explosiveness, but is relatively inexperienced as his junior season was cut short by an injury.

275 lbs

Sophomore Floyd Wright has outstanding potential, he combines speed, quickness, and unusual balance.
